Pragyan Ojha Banned from Bowling – 28th Dec

Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha has been banned from playing in all competitive cricket competitions after it was found he has been bowling with an illegal action. The Hyderabad Cricket Association requested that the left arm spinner be tested at the ICC recognised centre in Chennai where it was established that Ojha’s elbow flexed more than the permitted 15 degrees.

The BCCI then sent a letter to the Hyderabad Cricket Association to inform them of Ojha’s ban from all competitive competitions until his action is cleared. As a result, Ojha was removed from Hyderabad’s squad to play against the Services in the Ranji Trophy on Sunday

It is reported that Pragyan Ojha has been monitored over the past year in regards his action so it will come as no surprise to many that he has been found to have an illegal action. This is a possible reason why Ojha has not featured on the International level recently as the BCCI look to take the spotlight away from his bowling action. It is believed that having his action tested at the Chennai centre came after he discussed his action with the BCCI.

Pragyan Ojha is one of the quickest bowlers to have reached 100 Test wickets for India and being banned from all competitions will make sure his horrible few months continues. Ojha has only recently been cut from the Mumbai Indians Indian Premier League squad for the 2015 season which means he will be in the auction. However, if he fails to fix his action by the auction, it is certain no team will pick him up.
